What is required prior to the sale of
Fireworks?
A person, firm, partnership, or corporation is required to obtain a
fireworks permit, issued by the City Finance Officer or his designee, prior
to the sale of any fireworks. The fee is a $1000 and is non-refundable.
Additionally, both a sales and use tax and fireworks licenses from the State
of South Dakota are required.
When can I SELL fireworks?
No person, firm, partnership, or corporation shall offer fireworks for
retail sale to individuals before June 29 or after July 5. Sales are not
permitted before 9:00 o'clock a.m., Central Time, or after 10:30 o'clock
p.m., Central Time, from June 29 through July 2 and on July 5. Sales are not
permitted before 9:00 o'clock a.m., Central Time, or after 12:00 o'clock
midnight, Central Time on July 3 and July 4.
What types of fireworks cannot be sold?
No person, firm, partnership, or corporation shall offer for retail sale
fireworks commonly known as bottle rockets.
When can I DISCHARGE fireworks?
Fireworks, as described in SDCL 34-37-5 may be discharged within the city
limits between the hours of 9:00 o'clock a.m., Central Time, and 10:30
o'clock p.m., Central Time, from June 29 through July 2 and on July 5.
Fireworks, as described in SDCL 34-37-5, except fireworks commonly known as
bottle rockets, may be discharged within the city limits between the hours
of 9:00 o'clock a.m., Central Time, and 12:00 o'clock midnight, Central Time
on July 3 and July 4.
Where can I sell or discharge fireworks?
Anywhere within the city limits of Fort Pierre.
