It is unlawful to drive or cause operation of a motor vehicle in excess of twenty-five (25) miles per hour, except as otherwise provided by signs, signals, or traffic control devices in the area.
Where signs, signals, or traffic control devices specify a speed less than twenty-five (25) miles per hour, the lesser speed shall be the maximum permissible speed.

The beginning of any speed zone is the location of the sign, signals, or traffic control device that requires or permits decrease of increase of motor vehicle speed. Such speed zone shall continue until the beginning of the next speed zone.

It is unlawful to drive or cause operation of a motor vehicle in excess of fifteen (15) miles per hour when school safety zone signs are posted. The posted speed limit shall apply when school is in session and when children are present. The designated school safety zone areas shall be Main Avenue from 2nd Street to one-half the distance between South Dakota Highway 83 and Deadwood Street and 2nd Avenue from 2nd Street to one-half of the distance between South Dakota Highway 83 and Deadwood Street.
N-3-4 TRUCK ROUTE VIOLATION
It shall be the duty of all truck drivers within the city limits to drive and operate trucks having a gross vehicle weight of ten thousand (10,000) pounds upon the routes designated, except trucks making local deliver and service calls, who shall, nevertheless, follow the truck route or routes to the nearest point of departure to the deliver or service call site.
The routes shall be as follows:
A. State Highway 34 within the City limits.
B. State Highway 1806.
C. U.S. Highway 14 and 83.
D. Sale Barn, Stanley, and Elevator Roads from Highway 14/34 to 83.
E. Waldron Street, Far West Avenue, and the County Road, all south of Highway 14/34.
Trucks operating on City streets or highways may not exceed the weight limits as defined by the South Dakota Motor Carrier Handbook prepared by South Dakota Department of Transportation. The maximum axle and axle group loadings as set forth in this paragraph may be reduced. The City Council shall be responsible for setting load limits and may increase, lessen, or remove these restrictions if street or highway conditions warrant. Any law enforcement officer having reasonable cause to believe that the weight of a vehicle and load is unlawful, is authorized to weigh the same either by means of portable or stationary scales and may require that such vehicle be driven to the nearest scales.
The city may close certain streets or portions of streets to truck traffic (at or over 10,000 lbs gross) as it sees fit. Those streets shall be signed in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) with No Through Trucks signs.
