S-4 POLITICAL CANDIDATE AND ELECTION SIGNS

S-4-1 PURPOSE

The purpose of this chapter is to establish rules and regulations regarding the placing of signs by political candidates within the City of Fort Pierre.

S-4-1.1 POLITICAL CANDIDATE AND ELECTION SIGNS

With the exception of bumper stickers placed on licensed motor vehicles, no person shall place or display any political candidate or election issue sign on public or private property prior to thirty (30) days before any election, and all such signs shall be removed within seven (7) days of the election.

S-4-2 GENERAL SIGN REGULATION

Political candidate signs up to thirty-two (32) square feet in size shall be located in a business, commercial, or industrial zone, or may be displayed at the principal campaign headquarters of a lawful political candidate at any time.

Political candidate or election issue signs up to thirty-two (32) square feet in size, when located on their own rented or owned space of a vacant lot in a business, commercial or industrial zone, may be displayed thirty (30) days prior to an election, but must removed within seven (7) days of the election day.

With the permission of the property owner, or the property owner adjacent to the public right-of-way, political candidate or election issue signs may be placed on private property or in the boulevard area of the street right-of-way adjacent to private property for thirty (30) days before any election, provided the signs do not exceed three (3) square feet in area and are removed within seven (7) days of the election day.

With the permission of the adjacent property owner, political or election issue signs not exceeding thirty-two (32) square feet in size and placed in a vehicle or on a trailer may park on public streets and in public parking lots for thirty (30) days before any election, provided all parking regulations are met and the signs are removed within seven (7) days of the election day.

Political and election issue bill boards may be displayed at any time in commercial or industrial zoned areas of the municipality.
