The CITY OF FORT PIERRE and WEST RIVER/LYMAN-JONES RURAL WATER
*EMERGENCY WATER USE RESTRICTIONS*
The Lower Brule Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is having issues and is running at about 50% capacity. We’ve reached out to the Mni Wiconi WTP, and it is running at full capacity. The WR/LJ wells are currently running at full capacity.
Due to the conditions caused by the current heat wave, we have implemented Emergency Water Conservation Measures until further notice. Temperatures are expected to drop next Tuesday, and we might be able to ease the water restrictions then.
It will be mandatory for our customers to conserve water to help WR/LJ maintain pressure throughout the system. During this emergency period, customers should not:
- Use water for lawn irrigation
- Wash vehicles
- Wash pavement or other surfaces
- Fill pools
- Fill spray tanks
- Use water for other unnecessary purposes
These emergency restrictions are necessary to ensure water is available for citizens, hospitals, clinics, businesses, livestock and other primary needs.
Please contact the WR/LJ Rural Water office in Murdo (605-669-2931) or the City of Fort Pierre (605-223-7690) if you have any questions. We will continue to provide updates as conditions change.
